Dear Sir,

1 In answer to your letter of March 20:th I beg to thank you for your kind permission to translate a prose selection from “Läsning for Barn”. The Mess:rs Allen & Co (13 Waterloo Place London) however, inform me that they possess the right of|| translation in those stories already published in England. I shall have therfore, rather to confine myself to tales not yet rendered into English. With regard to terms – I have been advised to publish a small edition at first, & to have the matter of issuing a second edition in the publisher’s hands.|| They would therfore object to having no discriminating power in this regard.

2 Would you kindly make some other proposition which I might lay before the publishers. Possibly, this might be on the lines of a payment to you, of a proportion of the translator’s profits.

3 I shall be glad to hear from you at your earliest convenience.

4 The size of volume would probably be much the same as “Snowdrops”|| but if specially illustrated the price might be 5/ instead of 3/6.
