Dear Prof. Topelius.

1 Still awaiting a reply to my long and very important letter to you of the [    ]Tomrum of October, I now write again to inform you of the further progress of a matter in which you are almost as vitally interested as myself. I cannot think you would abandon me in a cause in which I am fighting your battle as well as my own. Indeed, I am fighting the battle of all authors in bringing those Chicago rascals to justice.

2 I shall sail for New York, with my husband, on Nov. 22:nd, by the “Etruria”.

3 My lawyer, Judge Booth, is a man of about eighty-years of age, known for his uprightness and love of truth. He has a very strong will and is absolutely determined that I shall have reparation for the gross wrongs that|| have been done me. He ends one of his recent letters to me thus: “Perhaps if you proceed in getting justice at the hands of an American jury you may entertain a more favorable opinion of the land of your nativity”. He also wrote that my personal presence was absolutely necessary to my success. He wrote: “What earthly chance of success can there be when in your absence your opponents take the stand as witnesses and swear against you with all the ability which you know they possess coupled with the disregard of truth which you have reason to fear is part of their make up?” – I enclose an account of mine printedoläsligt p.g.a. konservering/inbindning in a spirited Washington weekly, called “Kate Field’s Washington”, which it is important for you to see.
